wake up thankful good morning

Morning Has Broken, performed by Cat Stevens

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Morning Has Broken” is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It was written by English author Eleanor Farjeon and is set to a traditional Gaelic tune. Writing credit for “Morning Has Broken” has occasionally been erroneously attributed to Cat Stevens, who popularized the song in the early ‘70’s. The familiar piano arrangement on Stevens’ recording was performed by Rick Wakeman, a classically trained keyboardist known for his tenures in the English progressive rock band Yes. (source)

    1. I know right? This song is just lovely! My hubby and I were talking about him last night as I prepared this post (which I’d intended to get out earlier but, hey 😉 ) and how melodious of a voice he has. Plus the piano is played by a past member of a favourite band: Yes. Bright and cheery wishes for a bright and cheery day Kim! xo G

    1. How wonderful that you can play this on the guitar Ute! My husband and I enjoy playing together, and I’ll have to add this to the list of songs for us to work on. Okay for ME to work on – he’s much more experienced than I! So glad you enjoyed :).

    1. You make me laugh so hard Diana! I canNOT imagine you looking like Rick Wakeman, ever, but hey – I was called some pretty bizarre names and lookalikes myself. Ah, youth. Thank heavens we’ve got that behind us! 😉 Hugs, Gina
